Mary’s Senior Session – A Portrait of Grace, Growth & a Little Bit of Snow

Mary is the kind of young woman who makes you stop in your tracks—not just because she’s beautiful (and she is!), but because there’s a quiet confidence about her. A calm brilliance. So when she and her mom, Catherine, arrived for her senior portrait session, I knew this was going to be something special.

Mary is a proud senior at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School and will be heading to Montana State College's Honors Program this fall—smart, kind, and completely ready to take on the world. But before she goes off to ski through Bozeman winters and tackle college life, we had a little celebrating to do. And by celebrating, I mean capturing her light, her personality, and her story in timeless portraits.

We started her custom senior session with an indoor studio look—classic, clean, and editorial. From there, we stepped into the natural beauty of my private backyard (yes, that dreamy mountain backdrop is real!). The variety was amazing: from fashion-forward shots in the golden grass valleys to a relaxed, breezy vibe in the cactus field, and even a riverside series in her cowgirl boots that brought all the charm.

And let’s talk about that bond between Mary and her mom, Catherine. Catherine was glowing with pride... and yes, there were tears. (Happy ones!) Watching her see Mary through my lens, then again when she selected images for the album and wall portraits—it was emotional, beautiful, and exactly why I do what I do. Creating portraits that make moms cry happy tears? That’s my sweet spot.

One of the most meaningful parts of Mary’s experience was her ski-themed add-on session. We ventured out for a bonus day where she traded boots for skis and gave us a glimpse into the wintery world she loves so much. These images not only added a personal twist, they told her story in a way that words just can’t.
